Roy is 62 years old and was born in Havana, Cuba. He first came to the U.S. in 1980 as a political refugee having fled the Cuban military at the age of 29. When he first arrived, he began working in construction, then alternated work in kitchens, factory, maintenance, and field/farm work. The last time he had a job was in 2004, as he was unable to hold an official job after that due to his criminal record stemming from theft charges. His last job was working at the Coors beer factory in Wisconsin which he held until they discovered he had a record and dismissed him. Roy was a boxer for over 20 years and enjoys playing chess, playing crossword and math puzzles, and loves reading books. He uses the computers at the Santa Monica Public Library everyday where he enjoys reading news articles and books accessible online.
He has been trying to get housing for seven years now and currently resides at Cloverfield and Olympic at the Extra Space Storage.
